The 5 Days Rwanda Gorilla Trek explores the renowned Volcanoes National Park, home to mountain gorillas and golden monkeys. Bordering Congo and Uganda, the park encompasses 4,507m-tall Mt. Karisimbi and 4 other forested volcanoes. And Kigali, the nation’s sprawling capital that has a vibrant restaurant and nightlife scene.

DAY 1: Arrival in Kigali (15 minutes)
Our Rwanda Gorilla Trek starts after your flight‘s arrival at Kigali Airport where you will be welcomed by our Representative check into the hotel for refreshment before heading for a city tour in Kigali – visit the Kigali Memorial Centre.
This is a grim reminder of the 1994 senseless massacres. The museum is built on a site where over 250,000 people are buried. The exhibits in the museum powerfully tell the story of Rwanda, its history and the unfolding genocide. Included are touch screens which have on them the testimonials of some of the survivors present during this turbulent time.

DAY 2: Kigali – Volcanoes National Park (130kms / 3hrs)
After a relaxed breakfast, transfer to Volcanoes National Park arriving in time for lunch. You will then head to the Kinigi Cultural Centre. Here traditional dance groups will performance different types of dances, wearing colorful attire as they demonstrate about their way of life in the communities.

DAY 3: Volcanoes National Park – Gorilla Trekking
After an early breakfast (7:00 am) head to the park headquarters and go through the formalities of track preparation and your guide will brief you on the Rwanda gorilla trek etiquette.
Tracking the gorillas starts at 8:30am through the thick undergrowth can be a strenuous task, albeit in the end, a rewarding one. There can be a lot of steep gradients to conquer therefore you need to be relatively fit. Led by a park ranger, the actual trek to the gorillas’ resting place can be between 4 – 8 hours or less. Once your assigned gorilla group has been located you will spend 1 hour in their company.

DAY 4: Hiking to Twin Lakes Burera & Ruhondo
The fourth of the Rwanda gorilla trek bigins after a calm breakfast. You’ll will go for an exploration of the crater lakes that are situated just outside the national park. The twin lakes Burera and Ruhondo can be accessed by car. You will make a guided community walk to learn more about the African lifestyle first hand. Meet the local’s fishermen and watch how they make their living while enjoying the fabulous views and scenery of the lakes with the volcanoes in the background.
After lunch head forthe school visit –This is a 2 hour walk to the schools for adult education and 1 hour walk to the Nursery Visit. Guests will get exposed to the Rwandese education system OR Have Lunch then participate in the 2 hours program on the Bee Keeping project that was initiated for income generation to the community and get to learn how honey is produced and harvested.

DAY 5: Golden Monkey Hike
Have breakfast and then head for the Golden Monkey hike – These primates are originally thought to be a subspecies of the blue monkey, this playful and gregarious primate is now classified as a species in its own right and with a single known viable population in the Virungas; this is one of Africa’s rarest primates. The monkeys can often be found playing and feeding in the rich bamboo forests where tourist can expect a close encounter with these beautiful primates. Return for lunch and relaxation in the evening.

DAY 5: Volcanoes National Park – Kigali – Departure (130kms / 3hrs)
For the last morning hours of the Rwanda gorilla trek safari, have breakfast and enjoy the beautiful scenery one more time as we calmly transfer back to Kigali City arriving in time for lunch. Depending on the time of your international flight you will be dropped at Kigali International Airport. (B-L)
